Bevel Gears
Bevel gears are conical-toothed gear elements that transmit torque between intersecting shafts and redirect power flow at a defined angular offset. They are mainly used in vehicle differential assemblies, heavy axle drives, tower crane slewing mechanisms, marine angle transmission units, and mining rotary equipment, where a right-angle drive has to fit inside a compact housing.
All of these arrangements are specified through the same three dimensions—pitch cone, shaft angle, and mounting distance—so a replacement pair has to be built as a matched set rather than to tooth count alone. If you need the engineering background first, our guide on what is a bevel gear explains how straight, spiral, and Zerol tooth forms differ across those dimensions, and which one suits a given load and speed.
